Post-Care for Microneedling

Congratulations on your recent microneedling session! Whether this is your first treatment, or your tenth- it’s very important to follow proper after care instructions.

We have applied hyalouronic acid to the treatment area. We may have also dressed the site with either a second skin or a medical bandage.

Ensure you keep the second skin on for a minimum of 48 hours, or medical bandage on for a minimum of 12 hours.

Once the protective layer is removed, wash site gently with warm water and mild, anti-bacterial soap- with your hands, avoiding excessive rubbing and scrubbing. Gently pat dry with a clean towel or paper towel. It’s important to always keep the area clean during the healing process, to ensure optimal results. Ensure your pillowcases are clean as well.

You can apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly, coconut oil, vitamin E ointment, aloe vera, or unscented lotion to the treatment area for mild to moderate discomfort and to add an extra layer of protection against infection.

Monitor the treatment site closely and contact us or a medical professional immediately if you notice any signs of infection. Signs and symptoms of infection include (but aren’t limited to) fever, chills, red “ring” around site, fatigue, excessive itchiness or burning sensation (AFTER the first 72 hours), and unusual thick discharge from the site.

If the skin is itchy, apply cold compresses or use an over-the-counter antihistamine.

At any sign of infection, immediately clean the site, apply Polysporin or an alike product, and cover until we, or a health professional, can see it.

Just like any other skin rejuvenation process, microneedling may cause short term side effects. These include pinpoint bleeding, swelling, redness, and mild to moderate irritation at the site.

It’s important to reach out to our team or a medical professional if these symptoms persist or worsen during the first seven days following treatment.

Avoid total submerging and irritating environments (ie: bath, hot tub, sauna, swimming, etc.) for the first three days.

Avoid touching, picking, rubbing and scratching of the site.

Do not pick at the edges of your second skin or medical bandages, as this will cause them to lift and expose the treated area.

Do not pick any flaking skin or scabbing.

Avoid exposing the treated area to harsh chemicals, strong fragrances, or exfoliants for at least seven days.

Do not shave, wax, or use hair removal creams on the treated area until the skin has completely healed.

Avoid tight clothing or any materials that may rub against the treated area.

Do not attempt any strenuous activities or exercises that cause sweating during the first two days following treatment, as sweating can irritate the treated skin.

Most importantly, AVOID DIRECT SUNLIGHT for a minimum of three days. Prolonged acute sun exposure can cause excessive blistering, burning, and/or scarring at the site. If you truly must go into the elements, use SPF60 minimum for skin protection, but still try your absolute best to keep exposure to a minimum.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your recent treatment, do not hesitate to contact us at any time! Thank you!
